SoftBars is affiliated with MicroWorks, Inc., a firm that has been supplying customer support, consulting, and development for firms all across the United States. The two firms have the same ownership, but have different product lines. MicroWorks was founded in 1995 and has grown over the years by investing the profits from its consulting work into product development. The firm has 15 employees with expertise in the major programming languages and systems.
In 1996 MicroWorks began supplying consulting and support services for font and barcode engineering, including telephone support for barcode font products. This involves answering questions and solving problems for thousands of callers. Many of the problems require computer programming changes.
Seeing the pain and hassle of the thousands of businesses
trying to standardize barcoding, Joel Gyllenskog, the president of SoftBars,
realized there had to be an easier way.
In the summer of 2001 he began developing the patent pending technologies
used in SoftBars and launched the product in 2002.
